Timber that is graded as ‘clear’, ‘semi-clear’ or ‘select’ is visually assessed, and takes into account various aspects that include the quality and quantity of the knots in the timber.

A clear does not contain any knots, blue (discolouration) or wane (a defect characterised by visible bark or insufficient wood at the corner or along the edge of a plank), while semi-clear and select graded timber can have fixed knots.

Because of their quality and ‘defect free’ appearance, these grades are suitable for use in furniture where the timber will be exposed. This includes interior and exterior furniture, including bedroom and patio pieces. It can also be machined to create profiles such as skirting, ceiling, wall cladding and flooring.
